Motion Analysis
At EASMC we recently started using a new device that can register the motion of the horse while being lunged or ridden (a system like the Lameness Locator can only be used for short episode of walk or trot in hand). The data of this system are presented in very clear graphics with a wealth of information about rhythm, vertical power, and symmetry of movement and so on. It is called the Equestic clip and it is very easy to attach to a horse to register its movement.
It is a great tool to objectively monitor improvement during a rehabilitation program, but it is also a very nice tool to evaluate the horse over time to see if the training of the horse is resulting in clear improvement of some of the motion analysis parameters as symmetry and upward power.
The graph presented here is an example of one of these measurements of symmetry in timing of the left versus right diagonal in trot.
